Work Life
Gaslighting in the Workplace
In professional settings, those who frequently employ gaslighting are toxic managers who abuse their position; they seek to reinforce power dynamics in the workplace. For example, they consistently refuse to promise a promotion or raise to an employee, despite clear records or witnesses to the contrary. This can cause the employee to doubt their own memory and even their abilities at work.
Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
Workplace sexual harassment refers to situations where a person is subjected to unwanted sexual behavior in or by someone in their workplace. This behavior can be verbal, physical, or visual and can negatively impact the victim's work environment. Harassment often occurs based on a power imbalance, and victims are usually pressured to remain silent.
Verbal abuse can include sexually suggestive jokes or threats.
Physical abuse can occur through touching or sexually suggestive gestures.
Visual harassment may include sexually explicit images or emails.
Mobbing
Workplace stress is a common experience for many people, and when job demands exceed an employee's ability to cope, it can manifest as mobbing. Employee stress can stem from various factors such as excessive workload, lack of support from colleagues or superiors, and poor working conditions; it refers to the emotional and psychological tension that can arise from work-related pressures. Mobbing, on the other hand, is a form of bullying where a conspiracy is made to harass, intimidate, or exclude someone in the workplace; this may include elements such as spreading rumors, withholding information or resources, and excluding the person from social events or work-related activities.
White-collar suicides.
A promising, successful, high-earning young white-collar worker, married to a woman he loved, and who described himself as "from the upper class, well-off, with no financial worries and a peaceful family," committed suicide .
Mental Health in the Workplace
It is extremely important that workplaces, where people spend a significant portion of their active lives, are safe from a mental health perspective. Unfortunately, in our country, we face problems such as frequent layoffs due to economic contraction, discrimination, economic difficulties, child labor, illegal employment without health insurance, lack of workplace safety, and deprivation of basic human rights, all of which hinder a humane life, work, and psychological well-being.
Home, My Home, My Dear Workplace
Remote work has both positive and negative effects. For example, a customized workspace at home can increase concentration. The increased flexibility in working hours can also be associated with positive psychosocial outcomes. One advantage of this increased flexibility is that employees can easily combine work and personal responsibilities, thus achieving greater work-life balance.
